To hike to the famous Burgess Shale site (Walcott Quarry) takes a full day (20 km round-trip) and crosses incredible but rugged mountain terrain, make sure you are prepared! Mount Stephen Fossil Beds is a half-day hike, (6 km round-trip) described as short but steep.
